Stand-Up Comedy with Tom Clark
Session A: Mondays, Jan 18 - Mar 1 2010 • 7 to 10 PM (No class Feb 15; rehearsal Sunday Feb 28 at noon)

This stand-up comedy class series has a strong emphasis on writing and stage performance. Classes will focus on members performing their material in front of the class and becoming more comfortable on stage using various improv exercises. Students will be expected to write material outside of class based on exercises provided, and to listen to and watch some of the legends of comedy. Students will develop five minutes of material in preparation for a performance in front of friends and family in the final week. Some experience with stage performance is preferred, but not mandatory.

Prerequisite: Completion of Tom's Beginning Stand-Up Class and some experience performing stand-up (performance at open mics okay) is preferred
The Advanced Stand-up Comedy Class will focus more on character development, finding your own unique voice, and how to use the open mic to your advantage in developing material. There will still be a strong emphasis on writing and performance through additional exercises. Attendance of stand-up shows and open mics will be mandatory. As a class we will be attending at least two open mics together.
About the instructor:
TOM CLARK has been a stand-up comedian for fourteen years and actually began his career by taking a comedy class in his hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Tom has performed all across the country from New York to Los Angeles and around the world, including Cape Town, South Africa. His credits include Comedy Central's Premium Blend, New Faces at The Montreal Comedy Festival, CBS's Late Late Show, NBC's Late Friday and Funny Money on The Game Show Network. Tom has studied improv and sketch with Second City in Chicago, The Groundlings and ComedySportz. Tom is a member of the ComedySportz Main Company.
